After weeks of internet outrage, some seriously bad PR, and one CEO who couldn’t stop talking, we finally have the official price for Borderlands 4—and it’s not the dreaded $80 price tag fans feared.
On June 16, 2025, 2K confirmed the game will launch at the standard $69.99, putting an end to the chaos (kind of).
The $80 Panic and Pitchford’s PR Fire
The drama started when early rumors suggested Borderlands 4 would launch at $80—a number that made fans lose it. And then things got worse when Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford decided to chime in. Instead of calming things down, he said the final price wasn’t up to him and added,
“If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way.”
Yeah… that didn’t go over well.

He then made it worse by comparing the situation to buying a full-priced game in 1991 for $80—something fans weren’t exactly nostalgic about. Social media lit up. Reddit roasted him. X (formerly Twitter) dragged him for filth.
Eventually, Pitchford walked it back, saying he “misspoke” and apologized for the “real fans” comment. He claimed he respects everyone’s budgets. Still, the internet doesn’t forget.

Official Pricing (and a Bit of Shade)
In a follow-up post on his X account, Pitchford shared the good news:
“The big news: No price increase for Borderlands 4! Standard Edition launches not at $80, but at $69.99! They’re showing you, so please show them.”
Translation? Crisis averted—now go pre-order.
And yep, pre-orders are officially live. According to the Borderlands X account, here’s how the editions break down:
- Standard Edition: $69.99
- Deluxe Edition: $99.99
- Super Deluxe Edition: $129.99 (ouch)

That top-tier version comes loaded: two extra Vault Hunters, more missions, regions, DLC, cosmetics, and—of course—weapons. So yeah, even though it’s not $80, it’s still going to do some damage to your wallet.
A Sign of the Times
To be fair, Borderlands isn’t the only one jumping on the Deluxe train. Mario Kart World launched at $80 like it was no big deal. Pricing in 2025? It’s less about value and more about how much FOMO you can afford.
But for now, Borderlands fans can relax a bit. The game is promising all the usual chaos: grappling, gliding, co-op mayhem, and another wild planet ruled by a time-obsessed tyrant.
It’s loud, it’s ridiculous, it’s launching on September 12, 2025—and at least it’s not $80.
