The Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster gives fans a polished version of the classic RPG, complete with enhanced graphics, updated UI, and tweaked gameplay. But one change has stirred up a bit of chatter—the way the game handles encounter rates.
In the original version, you could set the encounter rate to zero right from the start. No random battles, no problem. But in the HD remaster, things are different. Yes, you can still stop monsters from popping up—you just have to earn it now.
Here’s how to unlock the ability to drop your encounter rate to zero.
What’s the Deal With Encounter Rates?
The encounter rate controls how often you run into monsters in dungeons or the overworld. By default, you can set it anywhere between 50% to 200% early in the game. Cranking it up helps with farming EXP, JP, and PG. But sometimes you just want to chill and explore without constant battles, right?
There were rumors flying around that the 0% encounter rate was removed in the remaster. Thankfully, that’s not true. It’s just locked behind a couple of Mini-games and a special item.
How to Unlock Mini-games in Bravely Default HD
You’ll unlock the Mini-games once you reach Florem, the third city in the game, during Chapter Two of the main story.
In Florem City Entrance, look for the Game Corner host—he’s the guy chilling next to the Potion Shop with a circus tent icon over his head.
Talk to him, and you’ll unlock two mini-games:
🎵 Luxencheer Rhythm Catch
A rhythm game where you tap along to the beat. There are three levels: Normal, Hard, and Expert.
🚢 Rigabel’s Panic Cruise
A multitasking mini-game where you pilot an airship, manage tasks, and fight off enemies.
Both games make use of the Joy-Con features, and they’re actually a fun little break from the main story.
Earning Petal Tokens and Buying the Ward Bangle
As you play these mini-games, you’ll earn Petal Tokens, which can be exchanged for items at the Game Corner. Two of these prizes are key to changing your encounter rate:

Once you buy the Ward Bangle, you’ll unlock the 0% option in your encounter rate settings. No more random battles while exploring? Yes, please.
On the flip side, if you’re in full grind mode, the Taunt Bangle will give you 400% encounter rate—perfect for quick job leveling or farming resources.
Sure, locking the 0% rate behind gameplay might be a bit annoying at first, but it’s not too hard to unlock. Plus, the mini-games are actually fun and offer other cool rewards too.
So whether you’re looking to grind hard or travel in peace, the remaster’s got your back—you just have to put in a little effort first.
