Since Pokemon TCG Pocket launched, one of the most requested features from players was the ability to trade cards with others. That feature finally arrived in January 2025, but its debut sparked mixed reactions from the community.
While players appreciated the feature’s arrival, many were frustrated with how it actually worked. The most common complaints centered around the high cost of trade tokens and the fact that certain cards couldn’t be traded at all—something that surprised and disappointed many.
After hearing the feedback, deNA responded quickly. On January 31, the developers announced changes were coming to the system and began distributing trade tokens more frequently. Then, on March 13, deNA confirmed that trade tokens would eventually be removed altogether, alongside other improvements to make trading more accessible.
Now, a new leak suggests even more changes are on the way—and soon.

Leak Teases July 29 Trading System Overhaul
According to Reddit user sylveon_eevee on the Pokemon TCG Pocket subreddit, the game’s trading system will receive a major update on July 29. The post claims that trade tokens will be completely removed and replaced by a new in-game currency: Shinedust.
Changes to trade system coming July 29!

Here’s what the leak says is coming:
- 1 trade token = 10 Shinedust in the default conversion
- Other conversion options will include 100 and 1000 Shinedust, though it’s unclear how many tokens will be needed for those
- Players will also be able to exchange up to 60 trade tokens for 60 Hourglass packs
- A wishlist feature will be introduced, allowing users to create a list of desired cards that their trading partners can view
- Promotional and two-star cards will reportedly not be eligible for trading under this new system (at least initially)
While this leak hasn’t been officially confirmed, it does line up with what deNA has previously hinted at. The cost of trades in Shinedust has not been detailed, so it’s unclear how affordable or grind-heavy the new system will be.
A Step Toward Smoother Trading?
If this leak proves accurate, it could represent a big step forward for Pokemon TCG Pocket’s trading feature. The removal of trade tokens—along with the addition of wishlist functionality—would address two of the community’s biggest concerns: cost and communication.
Still, as with all unconfirmed leaks, take this with a grain of salt until there’s an official announcement from the developers.
In the Meantime: Don’t Miss Eevee Grove
While fans wait for more news, the game’s latest themed booster pack—Eevee Grove—is now available. The new miniset adds 107 cards, all inspired by Eevee and its evolutions. One of the highlights is Eevee ex, the first Basic ex Pokémon that can evolve, marking a unique addition to the game’s card lineup.
