Borderlands 4 is giving us our first real look at Vex, the newest Siren joining the lineup—and her powers are seriously wild.
The devs have opened up about what she can do, how she fights, and what to expect when you pick her as your Vault Hunter.
If you’ve played any of the main Borderlands games, you know there’s always a Siren in the crew. Lilith kicked things off with Phasewalk, letting her go invisible, zip around fast, and blow stuff up when she reappeared. But since Borderlands 2, it’s been clear that each Siren brings their own unique twist—and Vex is no exception.
So, what’s Vex all about? Think of her as part necromancer, part ranger. She’s got a mix of summoning powers and self-buffs that let her go toe-to-toe with enemies or command the battlefield from a distance.
Her three big Action Skills are called Phase Phamiliar, Incarnate, and Dead Ringer—and each one brings something different to the table.

What Can Vex Do in Borderlands 4?
Phase Phamiliar is the first skill on the list, and it lets Vex summon a panther-like minion called Trouble. This feline friend doesn’t just scratch—Trouble can teleport to enemies and, when upgraded, becomes “Big Trouble,” with more damage and self-healing. You can even spec her skill tree to make Trouble tankier or increase its Critical Hit Chance up to 20%.
Incarnate is all about Vex going full powerhouse mode. She sprouts wings, explodes in a burst of Phase energy, and fully heals herself on the spot.
On top of that, she gets a floating Soul Orb that you can aim at enemies for extra damage. The more pain it dishes out, the quicker it recharges.
Depending on how you build her, you can also unlock a wave attack called Geistwave, gain defense boosts, or steal life from enemies as she damages them.
Then there’s Dead Ringer, where things get really spooky. Vex can summon two Phase Clone versions of herself. These aren’t just copies—they come with different styles. Specters are long-range and stationary, perfect for laying down cover fire.
Reapers, though, get right up in the enemy’s face with a scythe, draw aggro, and move around freely. Whether you’re into offense or defense, this skill gives you flexibility in how you play.
If you were a fan of Zer0’s decoys, Mordecai’s Bloodwing, or Gaige’s Deathtrap, you’ll probably love what Vex brings to the table. And with Borderlands 4 adding cool new mechanics like gliding, grappling, and double-jumping, there’s a lot of fun potential to mix her powers into the action.
