Alright ghost hunters, grab your gear — Phasmophobia just dropped a pretty beefy update on July 10, with a follow-up hotfix on July 11 to squash some annoying bugs. If you’ve been messing with the new Chronicle update that added video recorders, this patch builds on that with more ways to catch spooky activity on tape.
Let’s break it down.
New Recordable Video Evidence
Finally, we can catch some of the juiciest moments on film! Kinetic Games added three new ghost moments you can record:
- The ghost turning a Crucifix in Sunny Meadows.
- A burning Crucifix in the chapel.
- And the chef’s kiss moment: Obake shapeshifting.
If you’ve been farming video evidence for cash or just for bragging rights, this is a big deal. Word of warning though — devs say Obake’s shapeshift can be tricky to capture, so bring your A-game (and maybe a friend to distract the ghost).

Better Cues for Audio Recordings
Another solid change: the sound recorder now gives audio and visual cues when a recording finishes. No more second-guessing if you got the scream or the hunt noise on tape.
Also, recording ghost sounds during events just got easier — event screams can now be picked up, and the range has been adjusted so you don’t have to be on top of the ghost.
Media Reward Tweaks – Now with More $$$
Some solid balancing tweaks here:
- Ghost writing and freezing temps now give $10 instead of $5.
- Hunting ghost sounds? $20 instead of $15.
- Dead body photos now give $5 (RIP, value).
Feels like they’re trying to make the harder-to-capture stuff more worth your time. Good call, honestly.

Quality of Life Improvements
Here’s some of the gamer-friendly cleanup they’ve done:
- Map names now show up in multiplayer when browsing rooms. Finally!
- Journal keybind can’t be doubled up anymore. This should avoid some weird input conflicts.
- Media deletion system now scales with difficulty:
- Amateur: 5 deletes
- Intermediate: 4
- Professional+: 3
- Amateur: 5 deletes
- You can also delete $0 photos without voting, and media deletion now needs a majority vote instead of everyone agreeing. Much smoother.
And for those of you rocking Tier 3 gear, the Photo Camera screen’s been fixed to match the aspect ratio, so your polaroids won’t look like potato-quality Instagram filters anymore.
Hotfix Cleanup (July 11)
Some of the more annoying bugs were squashed in a quick patch the next day:
- Chromatic aberration is no longer cranked to 11 in the warehouse.
- Fixed issues with keybinds not saving.
- Missing rebind options added back (finally, you can interact properly again).

What’s Next? The Roadmap Says…
This update is solid, but if you peek at Phasmophobia’s 2025 roadmap, you’ll see we’ve got even more on the horizon:
- A Player Character Overhaul is coming (probably a total revamp of how we move/interact).
- A Grafton Farmhouse rework is on the way.
- And a brand-new small map is in development.
No hard release dates yet, but we’ll likely hear more later this year.
Summary:
- 3 new ghost video moments you can capture (including Obake shapeshift!)
- Better audio cues and rewards for recording ghost activity.
- Media deletion & rewards now scale with difficulty.
- Dozens of fixes, especially for VR, photo glitches, and recording bugs.
If you haven’t jumped back into Phasmo since Chronicle, now’s a great time. The devs are clearly listening and tightening things up for a smoother ghost-hunting experience.
