Call of Duty HQ Just Went Down Hard—Here’s What Happened

Call of Duty fans got an unexpected break this week when Call of Duty HQ suddenly went offline, taking nearly every major title with it.

Games like Black Ops 6, Warzone, Modern Warfare 3, and others were all hit by the outage, which lasted about 30 minutes.

Thankfully, the servers are back online now—but the incident has once again put a spotlight on the much-criticized HQ app.

For those out of the loop, Call of Duty HQ is Activision’s all-in-one launcher introduced with Modern Warfare (2019).

It was meant to unify the series’ newer games under one roof—including Warzone and all the post-Cold War titles.

Sounds convenient, right? Well, not exactly. Players have constantly voiced frustrations about the app’s clunky UI, bloated storage requirements, and now, a major server outage.

What Went Down?

The outage happened on June 24 (or June 25, depending on where you live).

Out of nowhere, players across the globe were suddenly kicked from Modern Warfare 2, MW3, Black Ops 6, and Warzone. Call of Duty’s support team quickly confirmed the issue via their @CODUpdates Twitter account, saying they were looking into it.

Not long after, they reassured players that services were stabilizing and games should be reconnecting.

But here’s where things get even weirder: the outage wasn’t limited to HQ titles. Players also reported that Black Ops 4 and Warzone Mobile were down, which makes things a bit more suspicious.

Black Ops 4 is a standalone game from 2018, running on older consoles, and isn’t even tied to HQ—so what’s going on here?

Activision hasn’t confirmed whether this was a cyber attack, a technical failure, or just some bizarre glitch in the matrix, but fans are understandably curious.

Fans Not Happy (Again)

This isn’t the first time Call of Duty has experienced a wide-scale outage—one of the last big ones was in April, when Warzone went offline ahead of the Verdansk relaunch. But that was a planned event. This time? Not so much.

And players are growing more concerned. For many, this incident is just another reason why Activision should rethink the Call of Duty HQ app.

Between its usability issues and now potential vulnerabilities, fans are wondering if it’s more trouble than it’s worth.

What About Season 4 Reloaded?

There’s also concern that this hiccup might affect the upcoming Season 4 Reloaded update, which is expected to drop very soon.

While we still don’t know a ton about the update, Activision has teased a fun surprise: a Beavis and Butt-Head crossover.

Yup, the legendary animated duo will be joining the fight as new operator skins. Totally random—but also kind of awesome?

In the end, the servers are back up and running, but the situation has left players with more questions than answers.

If this was just a one-off tech hiccup, cool—glad it’s fixed. But if it’s a sign of deeper issues with Call of Duty HQ, fans are right to be a little nervous.

Let’s just hope the servers hold up when Season 4 Reloaded drops… and that Beavis and Butt-Head don’t accidentally take them down again.
