Following Expedition 33’s critical and commercial triumph, Sandfall Interactive confirms a new game is in the works, with big ideas already forming for the studio’s next ambitious project.
Expedition 33 Dev Teases Ambitious Follow-Up With “Great Ideas” Already in Motion
After Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took the gaming world by storm, it looks like Sandfall Interactive isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
In a recent interview, the studio’s COO and producer, François Meurisse, confirmed that another game is definitely on the horizon—and the team already has “great ideas” in the works.
For those who missed it, Expedition 33 dropped in April 2025 and instantly became a hit, thanks to its unique turn-based RPG combat, hauntingly beautiful Belle Époque-inspired world, and a gripping narrative centered on a group of brave “expeditioners” on a quest to stop the mysterious Paintress.
Within just 24 hours of launch, the game sold 500,000 copies, and has now hit a poetic milestone of 3.3 million sales in 33 weeks—a meta moment that perfectly reflects its title.

Critics and fans alike praised the game, landing it a 92% rating on OpenCritic, and even French President Emmanuel Macron acknowledged the game’s success. Not bad for a studio that started just five years ago with a team full of junior devs.
In his interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Meurisse confirmed what fans have been hoping for: “There will be another video game, for sure.” While he stayed quiet on specific details, he did reveal that creative director Guillaume Broche already has some exciting concepts in mind.
Meurisse also admitted that the next project will come with “higher expectations,” but the team is feeling confident thanks to all the experience and growth from working on Expedition 33.
“Now we’re starting from a more efficient position,” Meurisse said, explaining how the lessons learned and skills developed during their debut title will serve them well.
He noted that the team has “grown up,” both professionally and creatively, and that the initial challenges of being a new studio gave way to a collaborative spirit that helped bring Expedition 33 to life.
And even with the hype of the next game beginning to build, Sandfall is still celebrating Expedition 33.
The studio recently dropped a Monolith Set—a discounted bundle of Collector’s Edition-themed items—adding even more value for fans who want to dive deeper into the game’s world.
Director Guillaume Broche also took the time to share some wisdom with other developers, encouraging them to create games they’d personally love to play.
He emphasized the importance of authenticity, creativity, and solid teamwork—values that clearly shaped the success of Expedition 33.
While we don’t yet know what Sandfall’s next game will look like, one thing’s clear: they’ve built a strong foundation, a passionate community, and a roadmap packed with potential. Stay tuned—this is definitely a studio to watch.
