DOOM: The Dark Ages Weapon Tier List
Like every DOOM game before it, DOOM: The Dark Ages brings a seriously stacked arsenal to the table. Plenty of returning favorites make the cut, but there are also a few new toys to play with—and some of them are straight-up monsters.
Of course, some weapons rise above the rest, either thanks to better upgrades or higher damage potential. Below is a tier list ranking all of DOOM: The Dark Ages’ projectile-based weapons, based on just how hard they slap, how fun they are to use, and how well they scale when fully upgraded. Also find all difficulty settings.
🟨 S-Tier Weapons – Total Game Changers
These are the weapons you’ll want to have ready at all times. Pure destruction, no notes.

Ballistic Force Crossbow
The BFG of this game, even if it’s rocking a C instead of a G. The BFC is ridiculous when it comes to AoE damage, clearing waves in seconds. Plus, it’s super quick to pull out. Only downside? Ammo’s limited, so make those shots count.
Ravager
Best weapon in the game, full stop. With Vampirism, Ignition, and Supplier upgrades, the Ravager shreds enemies and keeps your health and ammo topped off. It comes late, but once you have it? It’s not leaving your hands.
Shield Saw
Technically a defensive weapon, but don’t let that fool you—it’s absolutely deadly. You can throw it, bounce it, trigger damage over time, and pair it with Shield Runes for insane versatility. One of the most unique and satisfying tools in your loadout.
🟩 A-Tier Weapons – Strong and Reliable
These are great throughout the game, especially once you start unlocking upgrades.

Combat Shotgun
The first gun you get, and still useful well into the endgame. Smelt and Flare-Up upgrades let you farm armor like crazy. Only real downside is how often you’ll be checking your ammo count.
Impaler
Bit of a love-it-or-hate-it weapon. But paired with a fully upgraded Flail and the Chronospike, it’s chaos in a bottle. If you’re good at parrying and landing headshots, this thing becomes a wrecking ball.
Accelerator
The better of the two plasma-type weapons, hands down. It builds charge, deals crowd damage, and with Heatblast, it even generates its own ammo. Feels great to use when things get hectic.
🟨 B-Tier Weapons – Not Bad, Not Great
These weapons can get the job done, but they’re not your best bet in a pinch.

Shredder
Conceptually awesome. In practice? Kind of underwhelming. Pincushion and Ricochet effects are neat but rarely worth the effort. You’ll probably swap it out before long.
Super Shotgun
It still feels great—chunky, powerful, and iconic—but it can’t generate any pickups like its Combat cousin. Pure style points, but falls short on sustainability.
Cycler
Decent damage and better than it looks at first glance. But next to the Accelerator, which makes its own ammo and nukes crowds, the Cycler feels like it’s always playing catch-up.
Rocket Launcher
Classic DOOM weapon and still a blast to use. Cannibalism is fun in close quarters, but with such a small ammo pool, it’s not something you can rely on all the time.
🟥 C-Tier Weapons – Use Only If You Have To
Situational picks at best. Fun for experimentation, but they won’t carry your run.

Grenade Launcher
You have to land direct hits, and the AoE isn’t enough to make it worth the effort most of the time. Once you’ve upgraded better weapons, there’s really no reason to go back to this.
Pulverizer
Feels like it should be great, but it just doesn’t deliver. Can’t generate health or ammo, and you’ll burn through Skullcrusher rounds way too fast. The Ravager makes it obsolete.
Chainshot
Yeah, technically it has some use against armored enemies. But it chews through ammo, doesn’t make more of it, and most players will only touch it when everything else is dry. It tries, but it’s just not enough.
DOOM: The Dark Ages gives you a deep, varied arsenal—and while there’s a place for every weapon, some are just plain better. Stick with the Ravager, BFC, and Shield Saw for big plays, and lean on the Combat Shotgun or Accelerator when you need consistency.
