The Quantum Computer’s Qubit Level is one of the most important upgrades you can work toward in The Alters.
It takes a little effort, but it’s totally worth it. Why? Because upping your Qubit Level is the key to getting more Alters and unlocking some seriously game-changing upgrades for your base.
Here’s a full breakdown of how to increase your Qubit Level, where to find what you need, and why it’s such a big deal in the long run.
How to Increase Qubit Level in The Alters
To upgrade your Qubit Level, you’ll need to:
- Find a Damaged Chip
- Craft it into a Qubit Chip at the Workshop
- Use that Qubit Chip at the Quantum Computer
That’s the short version. Now let’s go through it step by step.
How to Find the Damaged Chip and Craft a Qubit Chip

The first step is to find a Damaged Chip. In Act 1, you can find it southeast of your base, in a white case surrounded by ship debris.
It kind of looks like the crates where you find Jan’s personal items (the ones you can give to Alters to cheer them up), but this one is a little different.
Once you grab the chip, head back to your base and talk to your Technician Alter. They’ll confirm that it’s a damaged Qubit Chip—and let you know it can be repaired.
From there, go to the Workshop, open the ‘Available Items’ list, and scroll to the ‘Base’ section. Look for the Qubit Chip recipe. To craft it, you’ll need:
- 20 Metals
- 20 Minerals
- 1 Damaged Chip
It takes around one hour of in-game time to complete the crafting.

Upgrading the Quantum Computer
Once the Qubit Chip is ready, head over to the Quantum Computer in your base. Interact with it, and you’ll see that a Qubit Upgrade is available.

Press and hold A/X on the prompt, and after a quick cutscene, boom—you’ve upgraded your Qubit Level.
Just note: you’ll need one Damaged Chip per upgrade, and in Act 1, you can only get one. More Damaged Chips show up in future Acts, and the process to get them is basically the same.
What Does Increasing Qubit Level Do?
More Alters, More Fun (and More Productivity)
Each Alter you create takes up one slot on the Quantum Computer. So if you want more Alters running around gathering resources, crafting, and keeping your base running, you’ll need to keep upgrading your Qubit Level to unlock more slots.

It also unlocks new Research options, which is how you:
- Expand your base size
- Unlock new base modules
- Improve material efficiency
- Automate more stuff
Basically, the more your base grows, the more Alters you’ll need. And to get more Alters, you need higher Qubit Levels. It’s all connected.

What to Prioritize After Qubit Level 2
Once you hit Qubit Level 2, here’s what I recommend next:
- Base Expansion II – Gives you more space for modules.
- Greenhouse – Lets you produce Raw Food, which is needed to make Cooked Meals in the Kitchen.
- Recycler – Automatically produces Organics daily. The more Alters you have, the more Organics it produces.
These upgrades make a huge difference in your base’s self-sufficiency, especially as the game ramps up in intensity.
Increasing Qubit Level might feel like a side quest at first, but it’s absolutely core to long-term success in The Alters. The sooner you get more Alters and unlock those Research options, the smoother your survival journey will be.
