The Little Nightmares universe is getting a spooky new dimension—literally. Bandai Namco just revealed Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes, the first virtual reality entry in the beloved horror series.
It’s one of two Little Nightmares games currently in development, with the other being the highly anticipated Little Nightmares 3.
Since its creepy debut eight years ago, Little Nightmares has grown into one of Bandai Namco’s most critically acclaimed franchises.
After some uncertainty around the series following Embracer Group’s acquisition of original developer Tarsier Studios back in 2019, fans finally got reassurance in 2023 when Supermassive Games was confirmed to be leading development on the third installment. But the big surprise? The franchise is taking a bold new step into VR.

Welcome to Altered Echoes
Unveiled during the recent Little Nightmares Showcase Event, Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes is a standalone title, separate from Little Nightmares 3.
The announcement came with a short but chilling teaser, showing a camera creeping toward a mysterious door in a cave-like space. Inside? A music box playing a familiar tune—until a monstrous screech snatches it away.
Aside from that atmospheric tease, not much else has been revealed. The only hint from the official description? A cryptic line:
“Every step echoes closer… does this tune sound familiar, little ones?”
Classic Little Nightmares ambiguity—but fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
More Than Just a VR Game
The showcase wasn’t just about Altered Echoes. Fans also got big news on Little Nightmares 3, including a confirmed release date: October 10, 2025. Pre-orders are now live, and multiple editions of the game have been revealed.
Also announced was an enhanced version of the original Little Nightmares, set to drop the same day as the sequel. So if you’re looking to relive the terror—or experience it for the first time—it’s a good time to dive in.
Expanding the Little Nightmares Universe
Video games weren’t the only stars of the show. The franchise is expanding into other media, with several tie-ins announced:
- Little Nightmares: Descent to Nowhere – a new comic book
- The Sounds of Little Nightmares – an audio series
- Little Nightmares: The Lonely Ones – a novel
- An untitled stop-motion project – details TBA
It’s not the series’ first foray into other mediums—Little Nightmares comics have popped up in the past—but this is definitely the most ambitious push yet.
While You Wait…
While fans wait for Little Nightmares 3, there are a few other horror titles worth checking out.
One is The Midnight Walk, a similarly eerie game that launched in May 2025.
And if you’re a longtime fan of the original devs, keep an eye out for Reanimal by Tarsier Studios—it’s shaping up to hit that same unsettling sweet spot.
With Altered Echoes bringing the haunting world of Little Nightmares to VR, and a whole slate of content on the horizon, it’s a great time to be a fan of this eerie, atmospheric franchise.
Whether you’re returning to the Maw or stepping into it for the first time—you might want to leave the lights on.
