With the manga wrapped up last year, My Hero Academia is officially heading into its final anime season. Season 8 is confirmed to be the last, and it’s set to premiere in October 2025. The production team has already stated this will close out the story, and Japan is even hosting a special exhibition to celebrate the series and build hype for what’s coming next.
While details are still limited, we do know that Season 8 will cover the final portion of the manga—and there’s still room for the anime to make this send-off something truly memorable.
Where Does Season 7 Leave Off?
Season 7 aired in 2024 with two cours and 25 episodes total. It covered the Star and Stripe arc, the U.A. Traitor arc, and the beginning of the Final War arc, wrapping up at Chapter 398, which is the end of Volume 39.
That leaves just 33 chapters for Season 8 to adapt—from Chapter 399 to Chapter 431. That’s not a lot, especially by My Hero Academia standards, where the anime usually adapts around four chapters per episode. With that pacing, the final season could be as short as eight episodes, which feels a bit underwhelming unless the team slows things down or adds more material.
Will It Be a Full Season?
There’s a good chance it will be. A typical anime season runs for 12 episodes, and given that this is the final chapter of such a huge series, the team will likely aim to meet that minimum.
The Final War Arc includes some of the most intense moments in the series:
- All Might’s face-off against Tomura/All For One
- Bakugo’s showdown with Tomura
- Deku’s final battle with All For One
These are big fights that could easily be expanded with high-quality animation and slower pacing. If the studio puts the right effort into them, they could become standout moments in anime history.
Additional Content Could Stretch the Season
To hit that 12-episode mark and give fans a proper farewell, the anime could also include bonus material. There are a few ways to do that:
- The Epilogue Arc, which was already extended in Volume 42
- The special one-shot featured in Ultra Age: The Final Fanbook, released in May 2025 in Japan
- An expanded cameo of Koichi Haimawari from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, who briefly appears in the manga after the final battle
Including this content could not only extend the runtime but also help address the mixed fan reactions to the ending.
When Is Season 8 Coming Out?
My Hero Academia Season 8 will premiere in October 2025, although no exact date has been announced yet. It’s likely we’ll get more details during Anime Expo 2025 in early July, as the event has become a major stage for international anime announcements.
Crunchyroll has already confirmed it will stream the season as it airs in Japan. And since previous seasons were dubbed, fans can expect an English dub to follow shortly after release. My Hero Academia is also available on Netflix in select countries.
What to Expect from the Final Season
Naomi Nakayama is returning as director, so the overall visual style and tone will likely be consistent with recent seasons. With only a few dozen chapters left, the pacing can finally slow down, allowing the story’s emotional and action-packed moments to really hit.
Unlike some series that finish their arcs in movie form, My Hero Academia seems set to stay on TV for its conclusion. However, a sequel movie with original content after the series wraps isn’t out of the question.
