After recent chatter in the community about a sudden drop in bloodpoints, a Dead by Daylight developer has stepped in to clear the air—and it’s not the response fans were hoping for.
Every year, during Dead by Daylight’s anniversary events like the Twisted Masquerade, players get access to special “anniversary cakes” that grant a hefty bloodpoint bonus in matches. In previous years, these cakes would pop up 2–3 times per match at random. But since a recent update, fans have noticed a steep decline in their frequency.
Initially, many assumed it was a bug. But after the release of the 9.0.2 Bugfix Patch, a developer hopped on Reddit to clarify: the cakes are working exactly as intended. Yep—this isn’t a bug. It’s the new normal.

Fans React to the Cake Controversy
Unsurprisingly, the reaction hasn’t been great. Players took to Reddit and other forums to vent their frustration, especially since this change wasn’t mentioned during any of the recent developer updates or previews for the anniversary event.
The main concern? Grinding for bloodpoints is now more of a slog. And when you’re trying to prestige characters, unlock perks, or just keep up with the meta, bloodpoints are everything.
To make matters worse, the confirmation didn’t come with much explanation or empathy. The developer simply stated the cakes are “appearing as intended,” which rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. A little transparency—or even just a heads-up—would’ve gone a long way.

Despite the Drama, Dead by Daylight Keeps Climbing
Ironically, all this controversy comes at a time when Dead by Daylight is thriving. The game’s still smashing player count records, thanks in part to its string of successful crossovers with massive franchises like Stranger Things, Silent Hill, Alien, and Five Nights at Freddy’s.
It just goes to show—fans can love the game while still being disappointed by specific decisions. The two things aren’t mutually exclusive.
And let’s be honest: this isn’t the first time Behaviour Interactive has shaken up the formula. Whether it’s tweaking gameplay mechanics or reworking how perks are earned, change is part of the DBD experience. But still, when those changes impact how much in-game currency players earn—especially during an event designed to boost rewards—it’s understandable why the community’s pushing back.
Whether this leads to a bigger backlash or just becomes the new status quo remains to be seen. For now, players will have to adjust their expectations—and maybe bring a little extra patience to the Fog.
