Red Dead Redemption 2 fans might finally be getting what they’ve been hoping for—a proper current-gen upgrade. Rumors about an updated version have been floating around for a while, but now, new evidence has surfaced that makes it feel a whole lot more real.
Originally released in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, RDR2 is often hailed as one of Rockstar’s best games. It got a PC and Stadia port the following year, but weirdly, never received an enhanced version for the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. Earlier this year, a few reliable insiders suggested a next-gen release was in the pipeline—possibly even for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2—sometime in late 2025.

The Clue That’s Got Everyone Talking
A Reddit user going by the name Livid-Army-5857 discovered something pretty interesting on Rockstar’s official support page: a listing for “Online migration” under the Red Dead Online section. That’s the same kind of feature Rockstar rolled out when GTA 5 got its next-gen upgrade—players were able to transfer their GTA Online progress to the new consoles.
It didn’t take long for the listing to disappear from Rockstar’s site, but other users confirmed they saw it too. While it’s not official confirmation, it sure seems like Rockstar might be prepping for a current-gen launch behind the scenes.
The ‘Online Migration’ option is now visible on the Rockstar Support website for Red Dead Online.

What Could This Mean for RDR2?
A next-gen update could breathe new life into Red Dead Redemption 2, especially on console. Fans have been asking for smoother performance and graphical upgrades for years—like 60 FPS support, faster load times, and visual enhancements. Considering the massive gap between now and GTA 6’s expected launch, this upgrade could be the perfect way for Rockstar to keep players engaged.
It’s worth noting that while Rockstar hasn’t made any formal announcements yet, they have been giving RDR2 a bit more attention lately. Just last week, they dropped a surprise update called Strange Tales of the West, which added eerie new supernatural storylines to Red Dead Online—reminiscent of the beloved Undead Nightmare DLC from the original Red Dead Redemption.
Fingers Crossed
As exciting as this all sounds, fans should take it with a grain of salt. It’s possible the online migration listing was just a mistake. Still, between the insider rumors and this new discovery, hope is definitely building that a proper next-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is on the horizon.
Now we wait for Rockstar to say something—anything—to confirm what fans have been hoping to hear.
