Rematch made a splash when it launched on June 19, pulling in over 92,000 players in just 24 hours. While the initial buzz has mellowed a bit, Sloclap’s unique soccer-inspired title is already carving out a loyal player base—and now, the devs are looking to take things to the next level with a brand-new tournament mode.

In a blog post shared on launch day, Sloclap outlined what’s next for Rematch. Crossplay is currently their top priority, but they’re also working on several other features that’ll shape the game’s future, including club systems, a leaderboard for top players, and—most excitingly—a full-on tournament mode.

Tournament Mode: A Competitive Twist on Rematch

Speaking with PC Gamer, Sloclap Co-Founder and CEO Pierre Tarno confirmed that tournament mode is expected to be the first big competitive feature added to the game. These tournaments will be scheduled events with higher stakes than standard ranked matches, and players will have the option to join solo through matchmaking or team up with friends.

Details on matchmaking are still a bit vague, but it sounds like an MMR-based system is the most likely route. Tarno also mentioned that each tournament will run for roughly two hours, though he didn’t get too deep into the structure or ruleset.

Given Rematch’s default 6-minute match length—and factoring in about a minute between games to regroup—it’s easy to imagine a 16-team single-elimination bracket fitting into that timeframe. If the devs go with a double-elimination setup, expect fewer teams per tournament (probably around 8) to keep things within the two-hour window.

Player Clubs With a Real-World Twist

In addition to tournaments, Tarno dropped some info on Rematch’s future club system—essentially the game’s take on clans or guilds. But instead of just letting players slap together random names and logos, Sloclap is doing something more grounded.

Players will be able to base their clubs around real-world cities and locations, echoing the feel of actual soccer teams. According to Tarno, this ties into the “football fantasy” at the heart of Rematch’s design. The cool part? You’re not limited by your real-life location, so online communities can form clubs in whichever city they want.

That said, the club system is still a ways off—Tarno described it as “really further down the line.”

The Road Ahead

Adding tournament mode is a smart move for keeping Rematch’s competitive scene fresh. It offers something more structured and intense than standard matchmaking and gives players a goal to work toward beyond just climbing the ranked ladder.

That said, the game’s paid model could present some challenges here. Filling tournaments with evenly matched players might prove tricky without a large enough pool. But if the devs can keep growing the community—and nail crossplay integration—there’s a good shot at making it work.

All in all, tournaments and clubs are shaping up to be game-changing features for Rematch. It’s clear Sloclap’s not slowing down anytime soon.
