Season 17 of Overwatch 2 is just around the corner, dropping on June 24, and Blizzard’s bringing in some juicy updates—especially for DPS mains. In a new blog post, former OW pro and current dev Scott ‘Custa’ Kennedy broke down what players can expect, and the big headline is: DPS heroes are getting a serious glow-up.

Global Buffs Incoming for DPS
One of the standout changes is a buff to the DPS role passive. Right now, damaging enemies lowers their received healing by 25%. Starting in Season 17, that number’s getting bumped up to 30%. It’s a small tweak on paper but could make a big difference in-game—especially with how strong supports are in the current meta.
Another global change: out-of-combat health regen will now kick in after 6 seconds instead of 5. Combined with the 2 healing reduction, this should make it a little easier for DPS to actually secure eliminations before supports swoop in to save the day.
Bastion Gets a Little… Smaller
On an individual hero level, Bastion is getting some love too—but not in the usual way. Instead of buffing his health or armor, the dev team is reducing his hitbox by 10%, making him harder to hit and slightly more durable. Fun fact: they almost made him 15% smaller, but apparently, he looked too “cute,” so they toned it down.
“It’s a testament to the many different ways we can change and balance the game for every hero,” Kennedy said, pointing to the creativity the devs are leaning into for balance tweaks.
Sombra Rework on the Horizon
Speaking of heroes in the dev crosshairs—Sombra is getting attention again. She’s been a frequent ban target, and while nothing’s dropping with the Season 17 launch, the team has confirmed a rework is in the works. It’s a complicated process, so don’t expect anything immediate, especially if it involves new abilities or visual effects. But it’s good to know she’s on the radar.
Map Voting Is Finally Happening
And yep, it’s real—map voting is coming in Season 17! Players will finally have some say in where they play, which is something the community’s been asking for forever.
More balance changes are expected before launch, and we’ll get the full scoop in the Season 17 trailer dropping June 17. So stay tuned—looks like it’s gonna be a big season for Overwatch 2.
